PIGEON HUNTING
Our pigeon hunts take place in Santiago del Estero, one of the provinces in Argentina with the greatest population of pigeons. The fields are approximately twenty to forty-five minutes away from the lodge. The hunts take place in various grain fields and feed lots. There is a limit of pigeons per hunter per day. We are constantly scouting the area to insure that every hunter has a successful hunt. Pigeons are hunted over decoys to maximize the opportunity of reaching one’s limit. The pigeon hunt typically starts around early mid-morning and runs until mid to late afternoon. Lunch is served in the field to increase hunting time since pigeons, unlike doves, are very unpredictable in their behavior. Each hunter is assigned a “bird boy” to tend to their needs while in the field.
PIGEON SPECIES
Patagioenas picazuro is a brown bird with white dashes on the back of its neck and darker brown wing patterns. It is similar in appearance to the Spotted Dove.
The Spot-winged Pigeon (Patagioenas maculosa) is a species of bird in the columbiade family.

THE PIGEON HUNTING EXPERIENCE
The pigeon hunt starts at 7:00 am with a hearty breakfast. Around 7:30 am we take a short drive to the shooting field. The distance to the field is typically between twenty and forty minutes. After the morning shoot, we go back to the lodge for lunch and a siesta. In the afternoon, we depart at around 3:00 pm for the evening shoot. Schedules may change depending on the time of the year.
In the pigeon field you will be assigned a personal field assistant for every two hunters. The assistant will provide you with shells, guns and soft drinks in your shooting spot. The field assistant will prepare your blind, count your birds and shells, and carry some stools to the field for you. In the evening, when everybody finishes the shooting day, we will return to the Lodge.
